I have long been interested in exploring the inner world, real and imagined, in various ways. While studying and practicing physical therapy, and previously when working in mental health, I became intrigued by biology, anatomy, physiology, psychology, neurology, systems theory, and especially by the world seen through the microscope.
As an artist, I have been interested in discovering and exploring these hidden worlds within and then revealing and developing them in the art I create. I am also interested in the dynamic between opposite forces and try to depict that as well, like form/formlessness, order/chaos, agitation/calm, precision/mess, micro/macro, etc.
When I paint, I start with a color and shape and then let the painting guide me through the process as some aspect of this inner world appears.
